Do you remember hearing the music of Marc Cohn for the first time? It seems to be true Americana, with subtle sophistication that is clearly derived through the filter of a keenly observative analytical mind. While one may not place Cohn's impact on culture to say the stratosphere of a Bob Dylan, there has been a place of prominence in the music world carved out by the breakout hit, "Walking in Memphis", which was featured on the album which helped earn Cohn the Best New Artist Grammy Award in 1992. "Walking in Memphis" is still prominently featured on the radio, if anyone still listens to music through the radio anymore...
With so much variety of music curation, there are many options to listen to from Apple to Amazon, Spotify to Sound Cloud, there seems to be specialization for multiple genres. While today's youth may not have heard Cohn crooning about New York, the '64 World's Fair, Bobby Kennedy, his father, seasons, or a silver Thunderbird, they may have heard of something that seems like it would yield more street cred for a rapper than it has for the storytelling pop/alt/folk musician.
